Downstairs

Downstairs provides a drop-in service for young people aged 12-21 years who are experiencing problematic alcohol and/or other drug use.

Participants are provided with practical and tangible opportunities to develop positive social and vocational roles in the community. They are encouraged to establish a network of meaningful and constructive relationships with workers, peers, family members and significant others who can support their efforts towards resolving the problems that contribute to risky behaviours.

Services at Downstairs Day Program include:

• entry points to other YSAS alcohol and other drug treatment services
• intensive support to young people
• supported referral to external alcohol and other drug agencies and community services, such as accommodation services
• Secondary Needle Syringe Program
• supervised recovery space for substance-affected young people
• weekly visits from community agencies, including housing and legal services
• basic assistance, including a meals program, shower and washing machine
• 21 recreational and activity programs
• therapeutic programs, including massage and acupuncture
• home based withdrawal and primary health nursing program.

Downstairs also operates a Primary Health Clinic where GPs deliver the full range of primary health medical services including:

• comprehensive primary health assessments
• alcohol and other drug assessments
• assistance in the development of medical health care plans.

In addition, there is a Primary Health Nurse providing:

• health promotion
• education
• health assessments.

Friday and Saturday:  1.00pm - 9.00pm.
