Skills Recognition
YSAS can utilise skills recognition as an alternative means of gaining accreditation. This incorporates processes such as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) or Direct Credit Transfer.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) are formal processes for the recognition of an individual’s knowledge and skills which may have been acquired through:
- formal training (conducted in the workplace or educational institution)
- work experience (including informal training)
- life experience.
The ‘concept of competence’ recognises that people learn in many different ways and at different speeds. Thus the development of competence is not about ‘doing time’ either in training or in a specific occupation. RPL/RCC provides a way to formally recognise a person’s prior skills and knowledge.
Participants with considerable experience and/or training in the alcohol and other drugs sector may wish to have this learning recognised through a formal RPL/RCC process.
Direct Credit Transfer can be applied in situations where a student has completed appropriate or relevant competency units of study with another registered training organisation. For example, a student may request YSAS to acknowledge a complete Certificate IV in Community Services (Alcohol and Other Drugs) if they have satisfactorily completed a Certificate IV in Community Services (Youth Work) at a TAFE institute and then completed the required alcohol and other drugs competency units with YSAS. A fee is payable for a direct credit transfer.
