Privacy & Disclaimer

As a part of the Victorian Alcohol and Drugs Workforce Development Strategy, the Drug Policy and Services Branch, Department of Human Services have contracted YSAS and Caraniche to deliver the Forensic Workforce Training Program.

The chief purpose of this training program is to increase the skills and knowledge of AOD Clinicians working regularly with the forensic client group by providing high-level forensic workforce training resources, opportunities and best practice forums. The development and delivery of this program will be assisted by Swinburne University, Ngwala Willumbong Cooperative, Fitzroy Legal Service and COATS.

The Forensic Workforce Development Project will be delivered over a 2-year period and will consist of a combination of one-day clinician workshops per region every 6 months and 2-day training programs per region every 6 months.

What will AOD Forensic Workers Gain
As a result of attending this program, workers will develop process and content specific knowledge and skills required of Forensic AOD workers across three specific areas:

  • Area 1: Forensic & Diversion Work
  • Area 2: AOD Counselling and Intervention for Forensic Clients
  • Area 3: Effective Interventions for Specific Forensic AOD Populations.

All workers will receive a Certificate of Attendance that outlines the training content covered in specific training they have attended. The two-day training programs will be 'stand alone' modules and workers only apply to attend training they specifically need. There are limited places available for each course so early application is highly recommended.

About This Noticeboard
As a part of our communication strategy for this project, we will be updating this noticeboard for the duration of the project (February 2007). Managers of relevant agencies and all workers who enrol for the training are being incorporated into a regional email contact list and will be issued with an email to advise when updates have been placed on the Noticeboard. The Noticeboard will be accessible by anyone interested in this project. Information will be attached via PDF links that will be easy to print off and share around.

The Noticeboard will include a range of information about the project including

  • Date and venue information for upcoming workshop and training dates
  • Registration Forms for training enrolment
  • Outlines of training program content

  • References/information that may be helpful to Forensic AOD workers

Training Needs Analysis
The initial part of this project involved the completion of a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) by eligible workers across the state to ensure that the training delivered was tailored to meet the needs of workers in each region.

Literature Review
The purpose of the Literature Review was to investigate best practice in the development and delivery of forensic training to AOD workers. The review provides a critical review of current best practice in forensic Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) treatment and, it provides an analysis of the methodologies employed in developing and delivering effective training programs for AOD workers in the criminal justice system. The findings in combination with the Training Needs Analysis and workforce consultation will provide the framework for the development of the Forensic Workforce Training Program.
