Known as Wilum, meaning 'a hut' or 'a camp', the YSAS Supported Accommodation Program provides stable and supported accommodation in the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne for 16 - 20 year olds wishing to remain abstinent from their drug of choice.

Young people can be referred to Wilum after completing a residential or home-based withdrawal.

The Wilum program is a 3-stage model:

  • entry level - a 3 bedroom house for 2 young people and a live-in lead tenant with intensive support from the Wilum staff
  • stage 2 - where 2 young people live on their own with medium levels of support from Wilum staff
  • stage 3 - where 2 young people live on their own with minimal support from the Wilum staff. From stage 3 young people develop an exit plan that will provide for accommodation post -Wilum.

Normally young people can stay in each stage for up to 4 months, for a total stay in Wilum of 12 months. A youth drug and alcohol worker must support them during their stay at Wilum. Participants must attend weekly therapeutic sessions and house meetings. Providing urine drug screens for analysis is part of the referral process and a requirement for participation in this program.

Requests for referral to Wilum can be made on 03 9419 6288 during office hours or YSAS Line 1800 014 446 (Freecall) after hours.
