YSAS trainers have extensive knowledge and experience in all areas related to young people and substance use. YSAS offers a wide range of training packages that can be customised to meet the needs of individual workers as well as the needs of services and organisations.

YSAS has provided training to over 6 000 workers from AOD services, youth services, community-based organisations as well as Commonwealth and State Government services.

Depending on what is required, YSAS can offer more comprehensive professional development programs that range from single session seminars through a number of seminars that cover a range of subject areas.

Single Session Training Packages

Some examples of possible single session packages include:

  • Updates on Specific Substances such as Volatile Substance Abuse (Chroming) & Party Drugs
  • Adolescent Development & Substance Use
  • Harm Minimisation Approaches
  • Risk Assessment
  • Pharmacotherapies and Young People
  • Motivational Interviewing & Relapse Prevention
  • Suicide & Self Harm
  • Trauma
A range of further subjects are also available.

Comprehensive Training Programs

Training Programs are developed through consultation with workers and organisations, and the development of a training needs analysis.

In the sample customised training program outlined, delivery time is forty hours, which can be condensed into one sequential block or offered over an extended period of time.
